On April 30, 2026, Ambassador Iván Medveczky visited Tartu, the second largest city in Estonia.

He first got to know the University of Tartu and its Hungarian relics: in 1842, Ferenc Liszt gave three highly successful concerts in the main building, between the two world wars several Hungarian professors contributed to the foundation of Estonian science, and the predecessor of the Liszt Institute in Tallinn, the Hungarian Scientific Institute, was also located there.
Afterwards, he made an introductory visit to Ann Veismann, the head of the Institute of Estonian and General Linguistics, discussing the future of Hungarian language teaching and the possibilities of popularizing language education.
He also had the opportunity to meet the students studying Hungarian under the guidance of visiting professor Krisztina Tóth and find out what is their reason behind choosing Hungarian - the meeting also started in a touching way with a Hungarian song, the performance of which was the students' idea.
During the visit to the university, we also laid a wreath at the memorial plaque of Stephen Bathory, Prince of Transylvania, commemorating his important role in the history of the city.
In the second half of the day, Ambassador discussed with Mayor Urmas Klaas the strengthening of twin city relations and the possibilities of joining the Tartu startup incubator network, and the future of scientific cooperation at the Tartu observatoorium and the Ahhaa Science Centre.
