On May 4, 2026, Ambassador Iván Medveczky visited Narva, the third largest city in Estonia and also the eastern border of the EU and NATO.
Upon visiting the Narva border crossing, which is currently only open to pedestrian traffic, he was informed about the current situation and was convinced that the security of the external borders is in excellent hands.
He also visited the training center of the Estonian Academy of Security Sciences (Sisekaitseakadeemia), where they are able to combine theoretical and digital training with practical experience gained at the external borders in a unique way.
On the occasion of Europe Week, he gave a lecture about Hungary to the students of the Narva Estonian Gymnasium (Narva Eesti Gümnaasium), who, in addition to political current events, learned what Hungary is famous for, from national dishes to world-famous inventions.
Mayor Katri Raik presented the challenges facing the city, but also the numerous achievements, of which the residents can rightly be proud. Both sides look forward to further strengthening relations, which look possible primarily in the cultural field.
Finally, we laid wreaths at the graves of the seven Hungarian soldiers who died in the 1011th Special Hospital near the village of Erra after World War II and who were later laid to rest in the German military cemetery in Narva.
